Hi all,

This is my first post, I was stoked to catch this largemouth as my first in a kayak this season. Hope this is a good sign of the season to come!

Take care all
Jay

Thanks for the welcome.

The smallmouth action is great here now, we caught a bunch this weekend, 3 -5+ pounds, To me these are huge smallies, and very fun!

I'll bore you with more pictures as the season goes on.   8)

There are a few of us on the east side, I'm tryin to get em to sign up here.

Howdy Greyshins!

It was a treat to see some eastside scenery, beside my own.  ::)

I'm up in the Methow Valley, in Okanogan county. The photo from the lower basin? And you?

The picture was taken on a pond north of Levy Landing right next to the Snake river outside of Pasco, Wa.

Pisco Sicko, are you familiar with Granite Lakes by Marble mount? Been wanting to go up there for greyling on the fly for years...never spoke to anyone who actually fished them though.

The Smallmouth fishing is INSANE right now, went out tonight in a friends sled, every fish 2-6 pounds, I got there late, caught around 10, both friends said it was the best day bass fishing they had ever had! They took a ton of pics, my forearm is killing me from reeling those pigs in, my friend could hardly grab the dock, I can't imagine a better evening fishing...unless I was in my kayak, hopefully the pre spawn feeding frenzy will last till Friday, my day off, I'll be in the yak by 8am, same spot >:D

Take care
Jay

I've never been in to the Granites. Marblemount is 1 1/2 hours west of here, and there's lots of good, closer lakes. No grayling, though a couple are rumored to still have goldens. Mostly beautiful native Westslope Cutts. Most of my fishing is local and oppurtunistic; an hour here and an hour there.

2 of 3 local lakes open now, winterkilled.  :-\ Nothing exciting, even when they do have fish, just standard rainbow stockers. Our best lowland trout lake (Big Twin), also winterkilled.  :'( Too much snow, for too long, killed the plants under the ice, which consumed the oxygen and produced CO2. In fact, I'm taking next Tuesday off (birthday), and will have to leave the valley to find anything interesting to fish for.

I've actually fished Granite lakes but it was about 20 years ago.  Back then you had drive up a pretty ugly logging road with big ditches plowed across it for drainage or to prevent private auto traffic.  There was no real trail back then and I remember picking our way uphill to the lower lake.  I packed in a small 1 man liferaft to get around the cliffs and brush.  I fished the outlet and also paddled across the lake dragging a fly with no greyling caught.  I did drop down and fish a small pothole just a ways down from the outlet on the right hand side and caught several nice rainbows though.  Beautiful country.  Quite a few small trout around the log-jammed outlet.  It was an in and out 1 day trip that left us fishing in the middle of the day so wasn't really a good test of the fishery.  Here is a link to a report from back in 2002:  http://www.washingtonlakes.com/ReportList.aspx?id=204

I've fished many of the high lakes up here, but at 63, I don't do too many 14 mile brush beats uphill anymore  ;D

Good luck and watch out for bears.  It's pretty much a July/Aug/Sept hike for sure.
