Llllllllet's Get Reaaaaaaaadyyyyy
to Rummmmmblllllllllle!

After too long a wait, I'm happy to announce that an official date has been set for the
OREGON ROCKFISH CLASSIC!!!

1st Prize will be an ..... Ocean Kayak Trident 13!!!!

         Date:  06/18/2011
Location:  Depoe Bay
                Headquarters:  Chinook Bend Campground
http://www.chinookbend.com/

I've spoken with the owner of Chinook Bend and we have a green light and discounted rates for the weekend of the 18th.

Rates are as follows:
$15.00 per night per tent/vehicle plus 10.25% local transient tax.
$22.00 per night per RV plus tax, full hookup.
That is a $10.00 per sight per night discount.
*For those who choose other accomodations, there'll be no charge for stopping by to sign in or attend the Awards Banquet.

If you've never attended an ORC event, and especially if you've never been on the salt, you owe it to yourself to sign up.  It's like a riverside family reunion culminating in an ocean fishing contest and awards potluck.  There's usually a lot of gear and rigging-idea trading.  For those new to the ocean, there are many of old salts ready and willing to help out.

ALL COMPETITORS MUST:
- FILL OUT AND SIGN A WAIVER BEFORE HITTING THE WATER!  If you haven't signed a waiver, you're not competing.
- FLY A SAFETY FLAG
- CARRY AN OREGON INVASIVE SPECIES PERMIT
- FOLLOW ALL DEPOE BAY REGULATIONS FOR ENTRY TO AND EXIT FROM THE HARBOR DURING THE CONTEST

- Every contestant will be given a numbered poker chip when they turn in their waiver
- Keep this chip safe!
- This chip must accompany your entry at the weigh in station.
- Weighed fish will be recorded under the number on the chip.
- The chip will also be used to claim your swag bag. (Not all bags will contain the same gear and numbers will be assigned randomly)

Look for the Sign-Up button on the NWKA Home Page.

Last year several people indicated that they would help out with things like a canopy, table, white board and even their spouse / significant for the weigh in station.  I'm not sure what the requirements are right now, but hopefully people are still enthused about helping.   My GF is on board for manning the weight station and excited about the whole trip in general.

I just reserved my spot at Chinook Bend. Looking forward to another great day of fishing!

Just confirmed with my wife that she will also help man the weigh in table.  Her only concern is getting a ride down to the launch later in the morning.
I'm thinking I will drop my camper at camp again so I can haul my kayak and any others to the launch in the AM that would need a ride.
My kayak trailer should be functional again by then so I can haul 2-3 kayaks on it, and 1-2 more in the bed of my truck.

So, Lee if you are game you and your yak can ride with me to the launch in the AM and your GF, my wife and any other table crew could ride down later in the morning in your car and set up the weigh in station.    The table, white board, measuring device, canopy, chairs, etc.... could be securely locked in my trailer just waiting for the girls to arrive and set it all up.

We would need our beloved event planners to secure permission from the powers to be, to setup in a spot in the parking lot for the weigh in area well ahead of time.

Do we plan to have the NWKA headquarters at camp in the same area as last year, the grassy area near the fire pit?

Good Luck to all. The campground is a great spot, DB is a wonderful place to launch and fish from and the event was wonderfully run last year. I'll be fishing in Alaska that week so I'll miss out, just a bit.  ;D

That's the plan unless you have some ideas.

That's perfect Insayn.  I'll leave my car with them.

Who do we talk to about setting up camp in the parking lot?  I can't remember, but was there a grassy area past the fillet station next to the river?

Nope, just getting a feel for where we'll be.  Same place as last year sounds good to me.

I just had an idea, maybe should think it out a little more before posting but i feel pretty good about it so here goes. Actually two parts:

(1) Does anyone know a photographer and or someone with a powerboat that could zip around and take pictures during the contest? I know we all do it ourselves and some of the photos are really good but if your focused on the fishing you don't always get the subtle shots. I wouldn't even be adverse to buying some of the photos if there good. They do this at Mountain Bike Races and get some really great shots. I wouldn't mind contacting a few photographers if I could tell them they had a boat to get around in.

(2) If someone had a projector and screen we could download those photos as well as our own and show during the dinner and award ceremony.
