Been mostly ice fishing, since it's close and the river is too darn cold.

Will this count as a yak? It's made of the same material! >:D

The ice was 14" thick a week, or so, ago.

The FF is handy for me, and keeps Janni entertained with the "Fish TV".

Actually, she thinks it's funny to bury the catch, too! :o

Yesterday, I had a couple of flurries of action when schools of perch would show up. In the last few minutes, my jig got slammed several times, but I missed on the hookset. After a minute of waiting, the rod doubled over. I ended up with 11 perch and 1 big holdover 'bow.

The trout-

And the biggest perch of the day-

Dude!  You are hardcore!

Man,  I miss ice fishing.  I usually make it back east to visit my family each winter, but for some reason I haven't managed to make it back the past few years when they had fishable ice.  Sounds like they have plenty of ice this year, but I have no trips back planned.

I'll have to look into eastern Oregon options some day.

Looks awesome! Love how Janni loves to hang out and fish with you. You're a lucky man. I can hope that my lil' girl will do the same someday too.

B, that's all you. You and Owen gotta hit that up.

I also do my darnedest to keep her entertained. ::)

Brian, it's only 6-7 hours to here from PDX, assuming the roads are good, and you guys don't need too many potty stops. ;D

I'll bet that perch was a female full of eggs. A very productive day of fishing! Totally reminds me of the action I have on Woahink, minus the ice. Ice fishing is something I have always wanted to try. I am jealous!
Isn't it cool seeing the schools of perch, and then the nibbles on your pole. The big trout always makes the day! PS, thanks for sharing, it's so nice to see other fishing experiences. BTW, great photos!

I'll bet that 80-90% of the perch we catch are egg-laden females. Janni's got it figured out and can sex them as soon as they hit the ice. Since perch are incredibly prolific, hopefully we can help keep them from over-populating this lake.

BTW, inch for inch, I'd rather have a large perch than a large trout! The trout are a little more sporting, but the perch taste better, IMO.

Amen to that!  Nothing like flour dusted perch filets fried in bacon fat.
