 ???
My success rate at Knappton has been lousy for springers. I'm at zero fish for 6 trips down there. I have had a few take downs-- just no solid connections. And it's not from dull hooks either........
So-- I am gonna try putting in at Skamokawa tomorrow. It is just north of Tenasillahe Island on the Washington side. The current there is less than half what it is down by the Astoria bridge, so that will be nice. I went down there last week to scout it out from shore and there were a lot of PB's on the Oregon side near Red Slough... probably 60 boats (this was on Saturday which makes a difference). But that does tell me that it is a popular spot.
My plan is to launch at Skamakowa and go up Steamboat Slough then pop out into the mainstream Colombia. Just out of the slough it is 50' deep and continues about that depth up to Elochoman Slough upriver. With an incoming tide most of the morning I'll go upriver to start then end the day coming on the outside of Prince Island back to the launch.
This will be new water for me so I don't claim any experience there-- but if someone else would like to join in -- I should be launching near 9:00 am.
Come on out if you'd like to give it a shot.......
Shouldn't be too crazy on a Thursday. Maybe I'll finally get that Birthday Springer that's been eluding me.......

That sounds like a great plan.  I have a feeling you're going to get one.  Birthday fish are awesome.

Mark, how did you do?

It was a beautiful day on the water........( by saying that-- most of you already know what's coming)

No birthday fish again this year-- damhik. Only heard of one fish caught and one ripped off by a seal. But there was only about 25 boats out there and they were spread out nicely.
As always-- fishing new water is a good thing. I can see a lot of potential at this spot and will fish there again. My fishfinder battery petered out after 5 hours of trolling so I didn't give it a great try (note to self-- charge the damn thing the night before a trip). I may be getting too dependent on electronics. Go figure..........
I will say the area was a lot less effort than Knappton. It is still influenced by the tides-- just not as severely. As noted-- I will fish there again.
Sorry for this not being a better report......guess we'll just have to stay tuned.
