 How Ya'll are!,
still unable to paddle as of yet  >:(. but soon I will be released from the Dr.s care, and I am very anxious to get in the Yak!
After months and months of building the WAF account, I am shopping for another Yak. I want this one for the medium fast water found in our Pac/Nor rivers.
Not whitewater class rapids but fun none the less. I want to be able to float/drift the river for the usual reasons...Salmon, trout and steelhead. Summer and witer. The Prowler 13 is a bit too long with too much chine and NO rocker to speak of ( I get whipped around rocks midstream instead of pulling into the eddy)

The OK Frenzy is about the size I want, but not sure if it is the boat I want.
do any of Ya'll have a smaller boat you use and what do you like or dislike about it?

Thanks in advance, and I hope yer holydaze are all you want them to be

I used a Mini-X last season and it was pretty good.  Decent storage and ok on anchor.  This year I am  using a Trident 11 and it is even better.  GREAT storage for a dinky yak and great on the hook.

Here is a link... http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,15226.0.html

It has been a very fishy yak... http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,15551.0.html

nice stories SBD!
I grew up on the Smith and know it so so today.
I am wondering where you launched at on the Smith for a drift?
I know a few who put in at Walker Hole, which gives ya plenty of fast water to fish before taking out at the Dr Fine bridge or at the ramp below it.
If you were in the faster water...how did the 11 footer do for you?
I always had trouble with me ass wantin ta pass me bow,and I get pointed upstream again!\
 Thanks for the help!

I took the OK frenzy down the Trinity in N. Cal in class 3+ and it was decent. it's tiny though, and I'm about at max load with no gear (180lbs)

there are some SOT's that can handle any kind of white water, like the dagger torrent....it's hardly rigged for fishing though, and it paddles like a white water boat....all manouver and no track...which is what that rocker on a short boat will do for you. spinny mcspin.

I took it down the sandy last April from Dodge to Oxbow in class 3+, and it was absolutely the most forgiving non inflatable kayak I've put in white water.

the 13 ft trident should be fine for moving (non white) water. It sounds like you could benefit from practicing draws & bow & stern ruddering strokes  ;) the trident 11 should be even better.

I've also thought about a WS Tsunami 120 for a closed deck for fishing sub class 2 rivers. multi chine is forgiving, and 12 ft is easy to manouver.

Box-I launched at a number of locations depending on flow including Ruby, Hiuchi Bridge, and Jed.

thanks jself, I believe you have made up my mind...a Frenzy it is.
I am @ 150#'s and want to fish upper Chetco and some of the lower Rogue with the Yak, I think that size is good for me and a lunch box. Plus it sounds as though it will handle well in the faster water for me.

SBD, Walker Hole is two turns in the river below the Hiouchi Bridge, you fished it, one of my favorite spots to bank fish for trout in the summer as a kid. I have yet to put my Yak in the Smith, but will do so this summer for sure.
How far down river did you go for the take out? Gotta be one of the most beautiful rivers in America.

Ahhhh the Smith. I spent 180 days in one year salmon/steelhead fishing that river....so many days that the rangers gave me an honorary lifetime day pass.

i've kayaked it a few times from the forks down to below jed smith...i forget the take out...a ladies name...there are two or 3 decent sub class two rapids....one at the east end of jed smith, the other just below the forks if i remember correct.

it's not a bad paddle, but there are tons of drift boats and bankies to watch out for. my favorite spot is right at the mouth of Mill Creek, on the down stream side of chub rock. you can sight fish that hole.

love it!

Agreed.  I LOVE the Smith.  I do different drifts at different flows, other times I just launch into a big hole and work the area and don't drift at all.

How do you guys think an OKBG would do on those drifts?

The Big Game is a pretty big yak at 12'9" length and 34" beam. It also has a full length keel, without much rocker. I'd rate it as a better choice for open water. It would probably be a load in a rock garden. If you are primarily interested in a river boat, there are probably better choices out there.

Nope.  When I look out there in my garage the OKBG is the only one there. ;D

I don't think the OK Big Game is a small riverboat!
I have been paddling the OK P-13 for years and wanted a small boat for the above mentioned "rock gardens".
putting a BG or any thing that big in that type water, and yer just asking to be bent over.......a rock  ::)
I just ordered my OK Frenzy, pick it up next month in Ashland.

Hey it's smaller than my drift boat was.  I'm not planning on launching at the forks or anything (although it was a thrill back in my drift boat days) but I will be trying out the upper Rogue and if I'm able to handle that maybe a stretch on the middle Rogue and then on to the Umpqua.  I have been keeping my eye out for a good steal on a SOT for my wife where I could get something a little more nimble than the BG but I'm 6'6", 250lb and I've discovered my rear end is way too wide for the frenzy or the zest which are the two I've found so far.

6'6" at 250#'s......I can see where the Frenzy is a lil small for you!
