I've been kayak fishing for the past 16 months. My wonderful wife is a Medic in the US Army and we are stationed at Fort Polk, La. In October we will be PCSing to Ft. Lewis. I was an electrician for 10 years in California. I am currently attending college to get my AA in Restaurant and Culinary Management. I love to cook! I lived in Ca. for about 32 years. Been fishing since I was 3 yrs old. I am excited to go somewhere different and learn the fishing there. I'm into Bass, Crappie, Striper Red Fish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder. I just picked up saltwater fishing about a year ago and it's awesome. I excited and hoping to meet some kayak fishermen out there and learn some saltwater fishing. I have a 2012 Hobie Outback Ivory Dune. I love it, it glides on the water! I've only installed a Hummingbird 365i FF/GPS combo. I've been looking through some of the forum topics and have found some great ideas for my yak. Well I'm anxiously waiting to get to Washington.

Thats a great boat, lots of our folks use them here. I'm from New Orleans and in my distant youth hung out at Fort Polk. Came to Washinton 18 months ago after 34 years in CA. It's truly a "Sportsmen's Paradise" here. No specs or redfish but lots of great waters, fish & yakers to meet.

Where and when will you be relocating.

  And    NO GATORS here..........yeeehaaa
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

The same gear you would striper, or redfish with will work fine for the way we'll be fishing'em in the salt. The terminal tackle will be slightly different than what your used to, but readily available all over up here.

You'll be fine with either set up. Most of the chum I catch range from 6-15lbs, and can be pretty damn fierce. The terminal tackle is prob no more than 2oz total if that.
