Monthly Events?

I haven't needed anything greater then 25 lb test line so far.   Any decent rockfish/lingcod tackle or heavy salmon gear should work just fine.  If you have a strong rod with a sensitive tip you'll want to use that because these are not aggressive biters and you won't feel the bite on an 'old broomstick' rod.

Pay attention to the part about "light gear" as most of these fish are undersized.

Late winter trout fishing anyone?  Lot's of stocked trout will be planted out there whose purpose is to be caught and eaten.  I'm thinking that this would be an excellent intro event for folks who aren't quite up to the challenge of river sturgeon and steelhead fishing.

I would love to be in to some lake winter trout action.  (I do fit the "folks who aren't quite up to the challenge of river sturgeon and steelhead fishing" description to the letter btw.   )

Not much momentum on the winter trout quite yet.  There are a few lakes in Southern Washington that are stocked with both smaller planter trout as well as some larger broodstock.  Battleground Lake is one such lake and is about 40 minutes north of Portland.  I've been trying to get more information about that fishery.

A lot of other lakes in the Portland area will be stocked later this winter, for example Henry Hagg Lake, but that lake is closed until March.  A lot of the other lakes being planted are tiny. 

There are also some lakes out on the coast that have decent winter trout fishing, but I'm not very familiar with them.  The guys down in Coos Bay seem to be doing okay on their local lakes.

How does trout fishing in a southern Washington lake sound to everyone?   Maybe sometime in February?

I read about a possible Lake Washington Cutty trip. March 3rd now anything happening on LW? Speaking of LW anyone crayfish from thier kayak? Just got back from Louisiana and crawdaddy's are big time down there.

I've been reading (elsewhere) that Lake Wa smallies are are in pre-pre-spawn mode. A few being picked up along rocky bottoms, 30-50' down. People are picking up a few cutts while trolling, too.
