Howdy!
My name is Chris. I have been lurking here for a little over a year (thanks for all of the knowledge and friendly insights that are shared here!!)

I moved from Virginia, where I grew up, to the NW in late 2010 when I married my wife (who is from Washington State).  I brought a small bit of knowledge of NW fisheries with me, having worked in the past for two years out of the DC office of a campaign to restore Columbia/Snake River salmon and steelhead.

I've enjoyed fishing all of my life, and my strongest passions (at least to this point 8) ) have been surf fishing and kayak fishing in tidal waters, for striped bass, red drum, speckled trout, bluefish, flounder, and other species found in the Mid-Atlantic.

I started kayaking (and kayak fishing) in 2001...having already enjoyed being around the water most of my life, I fell in love with both.   At 6'7" there were a couple "challenges" along the way in getting myself outfitted, but overall, things have worked out. ;D

My wife and I are renting a place on a small lake just SE of Olympia. So far, largemouth bass, and one nice cutthroat trout, have provided us with ample enjoyment here...looking forward to learning to catch more of the numerous trout in the lake.  I am really looking forward to learning the many unique types of fishing that the NW has to offer, particularly the steelhead and salmon fisheries!

Current Boats:
Liquid Logic Manta Ray 14.5
Scadden/NFO Assault XX (brand new)
Malibu Mini-X (will be selling ASAP, to help pay for the Assault XX  :))

Welcom!!!

That Liquid Logic Manta Ray is a cool boat. I'm surprised they don't make them any more.  ??? ???

Your quiver seems to be multiplying. You know you can't get them wet after midnight, right?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

@ Romanian Redneck -- the Assault XX is literally brand new...just arrived ;D...looking forward to posting an update and on-the-water photos soon...

@OlySpec -- I lived in a few different areas of Arlington/Alexandria over the years prior to my move out West.  My last residence was on the NW edge of Arlington, very close to Falls Church.

Welcome, C.Salp.  You are surrounded by many good lakes. And from the Oly area you can head out in practically any direction and find awesome waters.
I live on the coast, and the surf fishing sucks around here. All we have is Red Tail Surf Perch that average 7" to 12" with a few bigger ones to 15" on occasion. The fishing is spotty, as they move around a lot. First you have to locate 'em, and then maybe its game on.
I really enjoy paddling and fishing the tidal creeks and local estuaries here in the late summer and early fall for searun coastal cutthroat trout and salmon. I fly fish for the cutts, and also salmon, but will troll or toss hardware for the salmon. I'm usually fishing from my Native Ultimate 12.
I like to go fly fish a lake once in a while, too, from my Ultimate 12. I also have a Don Hill Mini-Drifter that I will be using more often to float some rivers, now that I have a trailer to haul it on. My truck died and I drive a Forester. I'm also refining the outfitting on my ancient 16' Sea Nymph john boat.
I got my Tarpon 140 for fishing bottomfish along the Jetty here, but so far this year, I haven't had my act together for any go-outs. I should be ready now when the conditions calm down and its again do-able.

Anyway, you have a lot of options, and quite a few fellow yak anglers on this board who are willing to share.

Thanks, CHM!

Looking forward to targeting the sea-run cutts here in the South Sound area, as well as the surf perch over on the coast...my wife will appreciate the latter more, as I can bring a couple home for the table. :)

I tried for surf perch down in Oregon once, about 7 months ago, had a couple of bites, but no fish...I think the surf was quite a bit bigger that day, than is usually preferred for that kind of fishing.
