Brutal. Did you see it working prior to that?

I did not see this sea lion at all and was not expecting it. I had seen two or so moving up river about an hour earlier. This sea lion must of been nearby and I just didn't know it. I thought the fish seemed to be acting kinda weird when it had earlier ran straight out 100 feet or so and came back. The sea lion must of followed it back to near my kayak underwater grabbed it and took off like a bat out of hell. I watched a large wave in the water pushing away from me and the sea lion appeared with my headless salmon minutes later. I have burns on my thumb from the spool rippin line off.

Wow, great video! So sorry for your loss! Yes, the salmon do get crazy when there is a seal or sea lion present. It makes for an interesting fight!

Jammer did the right thing not keeping the head. My reading of the rules it would be a ticket for not having a healed clipped fin.

I'm going to give the seal some slack if it takes my springer. Maybe it will give me a chance to give the seal a lip piercing of a nice red 4/O hook.

There is a difference between seals and sea lions.  In general the harbor seals are not much of a threat to you or your fish.  It is the sea lions that are nasty and aggressive and will steal your catch.

Crazy stuff!  Great vid. Some of the runs the fish was making though was a small bonus. Nothing like a little motivation to get the fish moving.

Well heck, your next video will have to be an Orca stealing dinner. That would raise the pucker factor a notch or two!!

This is the second video that I've seen lately of sea lions stealing fish. The other had the sea lion right at the back of a boat playing tug-a-war. The scary part is the sea lions can bite the salmon right in half. What if you get a hand in the way? They are getting way too agressive for my comfort. They really don't have  too much to fear from us.  Needs to change.
