Well the update is moving In slightly the right direction.

I think we will be fine for Sunday given the trend.

I agree with Akfishergal about needing to be there when its 15knts and 3ft. But frankly you'll never get out if you are waiting for 10knts and 2ft in the inlet.

It is a challenge but mainly the landing and to a lesser degree the launch. As Rimfire said, once out on the water it's usually fine.

Barring it blowing up over 5ft, I'll be there. Might not fish, but that only happened once and even then I caught one last year when they canceled the power boat derby. The landing wasn't a lot of fun though.

It's still way too far out for a reliable forecast. Stay motivated! I can completely understand you have to balance the drive time and work though.

Just to be clear, if it blows out Saturday, and we can fish Sunday, I do plan to postpone the derby just one day.  Anyone have heart burn with that? I will say I didn't put a date on the trophy just in case we had to move it.

I'll hit homers protected side if it is doable and whiskey gulch blows out on Saturday

Another useful weather tool.

You can see how today's forecast seems accurate for southwest of Homer which is in the cook inlet zone forecast. Turn on the weather stations on the right.

I look at all of Kenai Peninsula and cook inlet to get an idea of how the winds are moving.

Well I'm getting more excited with every minute that goes by. My cousin and I are still planning to be out there.

Is there a cut off time to get in the Derby again? I think last year it was Friday at 6:00PM. I'm unsure if that is the case again. Anyone know?

We're planning to show up Saturday late morning unless the weather forecast makes a drastic change (then we may come out tomorrow night or later Saturday). Right now, I don't see a point in showing up Friday and freezing my butt off. Saturday evening and Sunny Sunday with 5-10mph wind forecast look too good to pass up. I hope to see everyone out for this incredible adventure :)

I'm planning on heading that direction tomorrow morning and arriving at whiskey gulch in the mid/late afternoon regardless.  Weather looks to get pretty nasty out here in the CRV this weekend.

If the weather is too windy, I may just chill at a local establishment, drinking coffee, and waiting for a lull in the weather.  Hopefully there will be others around to chat with and stare at the waves too.  I plan on staying at least through the morning tide on Sunday but will have to depart by the afternoon to make it home at a decent hour.

With cold and crappy weather, and being behind at work, I'm gonna stay home this weekend and get caught up.  Sucky sucky

  Well done Kard.

At cooper landing. Be prepared for multiple stops. Construction zones and flaggers everywhere. I'd recommend leaving early today!

Nervously awaiting 4pm update.  I promise I will have a call sometime soon after that.

I'm guessing it will be an onsite call at 6am Saturday.  The only real call would be a total cancellation if it calls for a blow up on both Saturday and Sunday.  I think the one people won't like will be a call to cancel the early morning tide for a delay if its 20knts and 4ft but some think they can go and others can't when looking out on the beach.

Spot forecast is much better...let's hope it holds.  Rimfirematt will be able to tell us if the spot forecast extends to where we are fishing.  Its calling for 7 footers in the Inlet this afternoon for the zone forecast but 2 to 3 ft for the spot.  That will be as useful as the 4pm update.  I am getting a tad more optimistic!!!!!!

Don't worry about potential disappointments -- every one trusts you to make a good decision. The only sentiment that you're likely to feel is gratitude for your initiative and service.

Side bet? I bet that it's a "go" call because of unexpectedly good weather.

Checking in again at 4-ish.

Right now I'm at clam gulch. It's gorgeous! Dry, fairly sunny and flat water
