I think once Drano gets well "stocked", I'll be avoiding the chaos of weekends and will fish it on weekdays.  What I really need is a Drano like fishery that I can fish without getting a Washington license.  Maybe I should just fork over the dough for a full year's license.

Though we are still very early in the season, the entire Willamette River spring chinook run will funnel through Multnomah Channel.  May not be as easy as Drano, but it's a lot closer to home.

Is that true?  I would have thought a large portion of the run would have entered the Willamette at the main confluence with the Columbia.   Maybe they just can't pass up the first few wiffs of Willamette water as they pass by St. Helens.

Anyway, I'll probably also spend a lot of time fishing around downtown Portland. Having launches that are only a couple miles from home is hard to pass up for an after work chance at some salmon. I'm just waiting for the days to get a little longer and the run to pick up just a bit.

I'd be good for the 19th.

BTW:  I had suggested the small ponds simply because they tend to be full of fish, we'd be close enough most of the time to hoot each other on and while trolling would be out of the question, flies, baits, spinners, plugs, etc all have a chance of producing.  All of these ponds have "seawead" beds for cover.  All of them have LMB, bluegill, trout and catfish.  And most importantly, I can make sure that none you boys are cheating on the fish count.   :P

Oh yeah, they also pretty much guaranteed that slbrow6 gets a fish from his yak.  :-* Isn't that how this came up?   ;D

I've always heard that spring chinook travel along the edges of the Columbia, rather than out in the main current (the opposite of fall chinook).  They have to do less work as the current isn't as swift, and the water temps are low enough for them to get away with it (fall run fish have to stick to the deep channel due to lethal water temps in the edgewaters).  Much of the Willamette's flow actually heads down Multnomah Channel, rather than shooting out into the main Columbia.

Steelhead U. has a great write up on fishing the Lower Columbia, Multnomah Channel, and the Willamette.

Cool, the 19th it is.  Let's get me a damn fish!  Although hopefully my streak will be broken at Drano this weekend-knock on wood.  Regardless, a friendly pond fishing tourney sounds like fun, plus you don't get a good chance to do a decent trash talk when your trollin.  If you say we can fit at Bethany Pond I say let's do it.  Heck if were side-sittin fishin for bass in a pond, might as well bring a cold one also.

I seem to recall a vision similar to that while sturgeon fishing   ;)

I know Bethany is in everyone's back yard. But Benson (about 40 minutes from Downtown PDX) is a tad bigger without being so large that it swallows us (like Hagg). And with a fresh stock of 4000 trout in a small lake should still get whatever stink might be left off of Scott's boat after Drano.

Then again you could do a shaker tournament close to home with the possibility of Springers. ;D ;D ;D

Decisions, decisions. Y'all make 'em and I'll be there.  ;D

This sounds like a blast and I'd enjoy getting my line wet with you boys, but Haag is probably the only choice of those suggested so far that I could make it to from way down here in the mid-valley.

Okay, we have a date (the 19th) but not a place.

I looked up Bethany a little bit more and I think we may want to choose a little bigger place and leave that one of the bankies and kids to fish.

Hagg seems to keep coming up.  Maybe we can launch out of the same place (Boat Ramp C) and instill a must be withing shouting distance of another yaker so as not to get "swallowed" and keep the "Trash" comm. flowing"?

Or do we need to set up a poll on which lake to hit?

Since this is the official "slbrow6 Must Get a Fish Mini-Tournament", I'd be happy deferring to you for location and tournament rules.  I'm here for you Scott.   :-* Lol!

I'm just adding a poll to help decide where to hold this thing.

I'm not actually sure how the 19th got picked over the 20th.  Was there anyone who couldn't make it on Sunday? Personally, I'd be willing to change the date.
