I've heard mention of Brookings (~6 hours from Portland) as a possible derby location.  I've also heard mention of Sunset near Coos Bay (~4 hours from Portland).  I thought I'd put it to a poll.  So please vote up.

How about Pacific City? Central location. (2 hrs from PDX)  Easy launch (surf dependent) and a BIG rock to hide behind with some good reefs. AND the Nestucca river and bay. Just a thought!
But hey, I live in Florida! What do I know? ;D

Haven't fished Sunset bay, but have camped there, and it's incredibly beautiful.  I'd fish there just to see it from that perspective, and since we have a guide (CBY) to show us the hot spots, that's even greater.  Plus the Portland crew can make Pacific City in a normal weekend, but brookings makes it a LONG weekend of driving.

Looking forward to fishing for Lings the size of Brian's Elk Winner!

Wali, I assume that was you that voted other and the other is Pac City.  I modified the poll.

Here's a couple of pics from the Kayak out at Sunset. There's gotta be some  big ones out there. there's alot of water that needs to be fished out there.

See ya on the water..

As you guys probably know, I would prefer a spot even farther north than Pacific City. Pacific City does have all those dories and surfers. >:D The Pelican brew pub next door would be a small consolation. >:D

No Knock on S OR- my folks live in Shady Cove (along the Rogue), but I just don't get down there very often. :(

147 views and only 11 votes.  I suppose the same 11 of us could be just checking back waiting for number 12 to check in.   ;D  So number 12 ... please check in.

Pac City in the lead.  How long you guys want to keep this open before deciding?  You do know the next poll is for what date.  bsteves and zeelander are going to Elk so that weekend (Aug 2-3)  is out.  If you only knew my July/Aug schedule ... ugggh.  I got July 12-13 and August 23-24 open.  And the girlfriend will kill me if I schedule another derby.  Although she probably would have killed me for Aug 2-3 and I would have booked that.   ::)

You guys down there get some good calm days through September?  I'm guessing yes ... I hope.

not voting here since i most likely wont be able to attend ...work is killing my fish time!!... but, if i were going to attend, my vote would be for something central to even things out for all that plan to attend..< eyeing the suitcase, knowing i have to start packing the darn thing again tonight>
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

Pacific City for me only because it is the closest. If I can make the dates (work on Saturdays), I'll be there wherever it is.

Winds are usually good thru September.  NW's start to back off around then and the Souths haven't built up much steam.  And, if the swells are too big to fish there's some good surfing nearby.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Point break? Beach break? Mushy? Hollow? Gotta know which boards to bring along.

Beach breaks and reef break near Pacific City
Mushy stretch of beach break near the headland / Grinding A-Frames down the beach from where'd we be launching.  20 min away is one of Oregon's world famous worst kept secrets (aka The Boyscout Camp) A super long right reef break with a mile high headland and mile and a half hike in.

Beach break for sure and probably reef breaks around Sunset Bay
5min from the bay is a nicely sheltered Jetty/Beach break

Conditions are as variable as Oregon costal weather.  I'd bring a fish and a 6'10" pin tail.

August 23-24 would likely be the only time that works for me....the first time I have considered this event a possibility.

What kind of math did you use to figure Pac city was in the lead? i never did understand that new math.. ??? ;D

As far as a date, don't matter to me, but Aug.23-24 is just a week before Moucha, right? that might be inconvenient for people attending that tourny.

I am gonna try to go to Moucha,Plan a trip to visit family in the same trip, since gas is so expensive there's not gonna be too many long trips this year.

What about May?

Obviously messed up Math.  This Hawaii sun is getting to me.  Yup, Coos Bay is in the lead.

And yup, that's what I was thinking about Aug 23-24 ... too soon before Moutcha.  May weather too iffy to plan something?  I dunno, you tell me.  Perhaps June?
