I went ahead and voted for Pacific City, though I probably won't go, and it would be my first time in the salt anyway.  I guess I have an advantage, as both PC and Coos Bay wouldn't require a paid camping or hotel stay.  PC is easy driving distance from home, and Coos is easy driving distance from mother's.  It's actually been raining on any day off I've had so far this spring that wasn't taken up by other plans (family visits and new neice visits).  So I havn't even had a chance to take the Kayak out yet.

After making a monster drive from Gold Beach home to Seattle on Monday through all the fine Oregon Coastal communities, I changed my vote to Pacific City.  Nothing against the other options as they all look good, but it's 5 hours from Seattle to Pac City which is about the limits of my sanity.

I'm still thinking September on this.

Another vote for PC. it's a tolerable drive for the washington folks, easy launch, and most important a brew pub on the beach.  Early October the weather is still good and there could be some nice fish in the river too.

I just changed my vote-  ::) - to PC. My chances of making it down are weak, though not impossible.

I have a new location in anyone is interested. Port Orford is one of my hot spots I go to a lot. It has an easy surf launch with a big area to fish. It is south of Bandon by 20 miles. About hour or so from Coos Bay, but north of Brookings. The fishing there is always good with a supply of Blacks, lings, greenling and capizons. Just a thought.

Coos Bay 8, Pac City 8 ... we're tied.

So tell me, in late September, what are the salmon opportunities in the local rivers?  Just thinking of a backup plan in case the ocean gets blown out.

Pac City is on the Nestucca.  Nestucca Tidewater access is within .5 miles of the ocean put in.  Tillamook Bay tidewater is 30min away.  I'd still rather have an excuse to head down to Coos Bay in September though.  :-\

Do you really need an excuse to head south?  Just look at all the reports CBY is putting up.  That's a good enough reason, isn't it?   :P

As the guy in last place, I fully back Z's smack talk.  All I need is one good day on the water.

However, it seems that lately all I am capable of catching in OR or WA is planter trout and undersized sturgeon.  Oh, I also have a good track record on catching colds this year.

All kidding aside, I must say that I don't think I'd have had near the success to date if it weren't for all the great information I've gleened from you, Allen and all the other OG yaksters on NWKA.
