Anchovies are excellent table fair IMO. Fresh grilled anchovies are taaaasty! Such a pleasant nutty flavor.

Anchovies are excellent table fair IMO. Fresh grilled anchovies are taaaasty! Such a pleasant nutty flavor.

+1. When I lived in Ocean Shore, they were a prime target. My salmon fishing buddies were like "isn't that enough bait?" Im like "bait? Are you kidding?"  They would just shake their heads. Too bad. I prefer anchovies over cohos....

when Smelt is not open I go with Sockeye... in like it better than even Spring Chinook.

I was warned to start a new topic but I just want to reply my favorite fis is fresh sockeye bellies on the fire with a Littel season salt if I owned a fancy restaurant I would find a way to have these on the menu some people use these for halibut bait

Hey - caught a silver out of Puget Sound last season and clean/filet it.  Got on YouTube to learn how to make the sushi cuts and had it for dinner.  Tasted just like any sushi, but fresher.  In Japan the sushi prices are based not only by weight, but also by time it was caught in the ocean to the fish market and to the restaurant. The quicker, the fresher, the more it cost. The Shoreline Costco near where I live has fresh Ahi flown in from Hawaii and they make Poke out of it and sell it at 16.99 to 17.99 per pound. I will pick up 1/2 lb. during my lunch break and some seaweed (Nori) and eat it.

I know you can't catch them here anymore but the cheek meat on yellow eye rockfish is absolutely delicious! I also enjoy lingcod, silvers, and Kokanees.

Big yellow perch = Walleye. Wish they were found west of the Cascades.

I have had walleye and yellow perch and there is a subtile but distinct difference.  Walleye are just a little bit more bland.  Of course my experience is only with the mercury laced (thanks Canada) Lake Roosevelt walleye in the summer time????
