Careful with those batteries..  they seem to be popular with the vaping crowd and there have been issues.

Got a gift of a Fenix hi output flash light that uses those interchangeably with CR123's.  Gets really warm during discharge.

I wish I could say I haven't experienced what can happen when one carries loose batteries in a backpack with lots of other parts and pieces of an electrical engineering class project. Thankfully I was using NiMh cells so instead of exploding, they just melted a bunch of stuff and filled my backpack with smoke.  ;D

But yeah, that's what happens when you take the ones without a built-in BMS and short circuit those bad boys.

:spittake:  What no pictures? I have seen it happen in a car trunk back when I used to drive tow truck but it was automotive batteries and hand tools.... Let's just say that mechanic never worked on my car.

Thanks again Jeff.  Great seeing folks again, and very timely discussion on powering our kayak fishing toys.  Got me thinking more about what I'm seeing on my sonar screen.  Time for some more learning...

I also wanted to pile on....

Thanks for all your good efforts putting on these clinics (Craig, thanks for the show and tell items) . Great info and Q&A.

It was also good to meet a few new folks and put some face with names. Looking forward to our next one!
