I found this hobie outback on Craigslist and I am interested in buying it. The guy told me 350 dollars cause he has bills to pay. Is it worth the drive from albany, or to even look at the hobie? This will also be my first hobie kayak, so on that note what kind of things should I look for when looking the kayak over. Thank for the help guys and gals!!

Doesn't have pedals.  Looks like a pretty old vintage, and stored outside (in snow during winter - looks faded from sunlight too).  I think you'd do better to save your money and buy something better. Not worth the drive in my opinion.

just my 2cents but adding on the mirage drive and rudder looks to be around $700 plus you are gambling on the condition of the boat, how it was taken care of, any leaks, cracks in hull, etc.  By the time you do the add ons and fix any problems won't  you be approaching the range of a new boat price?

Does the owner know what year of boat this is?

let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,

that is the right and privilege of any free American."

This would be a hard NO for me. You do NOT want a boat that has been stored by suspending it by its handles - trust me. Also, all the stuff everyone else said.

Owner doesn't know the year. Said he used it twice. Once on the river and once on a lake. Thanks for the advice everyone!

There should be a hull ID engraved into the plastic (probably near the stern rudder mount).  This contains the year of manufacture.  From the looks of the rudder control handle to the left of the seat, and the handle styles, I'd guess 2011 or older.
