Happy 2016 all, I recently watched an episode of a fishing show featuring Heroes on the Water and was touched by the incredible generosity and healing they seek to provide for our military veterans.

I was wondering if any NWKA members would be interested in starting a HOW chapter here in Alaska? I've been in contact with their West regional manager. The process in starting a chapter does not look too difficult, especially with a few dedicated volunteers. I know there are a lot of hurting vets in the area and this could be another way folks could get involved with helping them in their healing process.

Thanks for your time and tight lines,

We would love to see a chapter up there. And you are correct the process to starting a chapter has been made more efficient. The info and training is now in place to hopefully make you more effective from the beginning. The first 30 chapters or so all pretty much figured things out on our own. As a result we had 30 some odd ways to get off the ground and TMI. So we have identified best practices and created training modules. We've identified the stages of development and have growth benchmarks so you don't get inundated with info in the near term that won't be of use until later.

The difficult part is keeping it growing and being persistent in raising awareness and support. This is where your leadership team and volunteers work together to execute the X's and O's on the white board to the benefit of those who served.

Best of luck,
Anthony

Also, currently there are no chapters in Hawaii and for some reason I always wondered if Alaska would be first to establish a chapter between the two.

I forgot to ask was it Ollie Hughes on Lunkerville?

I was going to ask folks here on the board to tune in, but I figured I would just link to it after it aired. I have not seen it anywhere yet though.
