Hello NWKA,
I'm a newbie to the kayak/fishing game and I've decided to go to Henry hagg (my first time) this Saturday the 18th at the ass crack of dawn ;) I hope to be on the water around 6am

I'm targeting Bass... any advice from those who've been on that lake before would be appreciated.
Is it ok to bring a cold one for moral support?
What's the average lake depth?
Lures to use?
Areas to avoid on lake?

I'll be going with a couple buddies.. (future NWKA members). I'll post an update after my weekend.

Fish On!!!!    I hope

Depending on how things go I might just see you out there Saturday.

Hagg lake is one of my favorites for simply variety of fish and relative ease in catching them. If you're looking for bass the dam area is a great place to start. The lake can (and will likely) fill up with powerboats around 10ish and that area can be a little crowded in the afternoon so I would hit it early.
There's definitely a pretty good too water bite early in the morning so bring your top water lures, pop'rs buzzbaits and whatever else you like to throw. From there I typically am throwing a crawdad colored crank bait with pretty decent luck. Also senkos rigged wacky and Texas style work well also.

One thing I can say is if all else fails cast out your rapala (rainbow trout pattern works best, but craw would work well too) and troll it around in the kayak. Doing this even just when moving spots can often result in fish, sometimes bass, sometimes trout even, but it nearly always results in fish for me at hagg. I've included a map that I've found to be fairly accurate as far as when to fish and where, I like the damn area and the areas to the left of Boat ramp "A" but the dam area is generally the best place to start.

Another thing to note is that there are kayak friendly launches on either side of the dam as of last year.

So, if you don't want to launch at ramp A or C (or whatever they are called now), and have to travel all the way down, you can drop in right at the dam.

Hi Basshunter.  If I didn't have plans already for Saturday I'd join you guys as Hagg Lake is only about 15 mins from my house.  I have fished that lake a lot over the last 1 1/2 yrs since moving here but I am by no means an expert but I have managed to coax some fish from there.  In front of the dam is usually a good spot but typically not till late summer.  At the upper end of the lake around Scoggins Creek or Tanner Creek are also good spots.  I was there last week and managed to get about a half dozen or so Crappie and a couple really small Bass just north of the pier above boat ramp C.
There are also a lot of boulders at the paddle craft launch area that I've heard hold some Bass also.
Take a look at the attached map for some good info.
Hope this helps.  Good luck.

Alright NWKA an update on Henry Hagg this weekend...
We launched near ramp C and were on the water about 6am. We started fishing and hooked onto a few LMB. My buddy caught a 2.5lb and I caught a 1.3lber.. within the first 30min. Unfortunately those were the only things we caught the rest of the day.

Lake is huge, im tired but I will return!!

Nice. My car sits in the garage most of the time. My wife calls it the garage queen.

Good to hear you guys caught a few fish. My first time out on Hagg with a kayak I got a 5.5lb LMB. That experience hooked me on kayak fishing.

Matt -
Using the map you provided we caught both between Ramp C and the West Shore Drive indicator. (On map)

Buddy was using a weightless lizard and I used a spinnerbait
