Yeah, I know, I know...  It is waaaaay to far away...  However, if you should happen to be in the area around 8 November....  Come join us....  I can get you a yak!

First Place Prize:

Unfortunately this year, the only prize....  Hopefully next year we can start having sponsors..

However, this year we will have this Framed Limited Print of a Redfish by Beaufort Artist William Rhett III.

Trust me, this will look good on any wall, and they sell for a pretty penny.

Bummer....

You couldn't take vacation along with the trip?

Only a 5 hour drive from Benning...

Allen,

You need to make a trip out here and find out.

They usually run in the 15-30 inch range, but can be over 48" long offshore or along the beaches during the spawn.  They hit aggressively and run hard and long...  Tougher than Striped Bass in this sense.  I have taken almost 15 minutes to land 28" fish from a yak, and they gave me a sleigh ride for a couple hundred yards in the process...

About the same type of fight as a Fresh Chum Salmon of comperable size.   They occasionally hit topwaters, like Largemouth Bass and Pike, but they are usually caught on live or cut bait or jigs/flies on the bottom.

Definately worth a trip down here to fish for them...  Fall and Spring are best times of the year for them, though they can be caught year round.  Good eating too.

What airport would I fly into?  No promises, but I'll check if I can convert some FF miles, but one hitch is that I'm tentatively scheduled to be in Korea on Nov 10.

Allen,

Either Savannah/Hilton Head or Charleston, SC would work.  Both about the same drive time from Beaufort.

I used to be stationed in Charleston; I'd fly in/out of there.  You could use this opportunity to build some major WAF if you bring her with you and leave her in chucktown.  I truly miss living down there.

Beaufort is better than Chucktown...  Less touristy  (Far fewer people, less traffic), more scenic.  Excellent Restaurants, art boutiques, and beach (Hunting Island State Park is the Gem of South Carolina.)

He has kept commenting that he wants to make it up here.....  The Frogmore Stew (Lowcountry Boil) is worth the price of admission itself.
