Weather and swell forecast are looking promising right now. Anyone interested in joining me to put some hurt on rockfish, lingcod, cabbies, and greenling?

Good luck out there. I've tried a few times in the last few years and it's been extremely slow fishing, maybe a few small rockfish in many hours of fishing.

However I've consistently caught my share of Dungees out there so I'd bring some crab gear (heavily weighted) if I was going to at least bring home something for dinner

If you go I hope you do better than I have done the last few years!

I am interested. Are you going  out in morning with the outgoing tide? This is something that I have thought I wanted to try but I have yet to go out in the Ocean.

Definitely avoid the outgoing tide!! Use a website like Deepzoom to get a sense of the size and timing of the current in a place like Westport. It's some seriously strong current on an outgoing or ebb tide. I'd recommend fishing the slack to flood or incoming tide. There can be large standing waves, swell etc

I had thought it would be better on an incoming tide. I was out on the jetty last weekend and it looked so nice I thought I need to get out there on my kayak someday.

Launch 1.5 hours before the low, fish the low exchange through the flood. Fish close to the rocks near the end or if you have balls the submerged jetty farther out. Dont fish with high swell out of the west or northwest, high winds from the west or northwest, or if it just rained and the chehalis is puking freshwater. Ilve never fished there and not had limits of large black rockfish.

rustyski, I have to apologize . I can be a blind fool when I get excited about something . I just realized that in your post you were referring to this Saturday not last. SO, does the forecast sill look good enough?. Are you still planning on going?I was planning on going there to go clamming on Saturday but going out on the kayak sounds more fun.

The forecast of 3-5 feet might be a little much for me. I have encountered some big wake action on the Columbia but I am sure its not the same. I also have questions about my kayak. It is a Sportsman 120 pdl and I don't believe It's Ideal for larger waves or surf. It  is still early in the week. If the waters are as calm as they were 4/16 I would have no problems.

I ended up not being able to go due to some family obligations that sprung up. Hopefully soon though.

I launched around 8 this morning. 2 smallish lings and no rockfish at all. No other kayakers out there, but lots of bankies and 2 power boats. Nice conditions.
