Looking at new electronics to be used on a Hobie Revo 16...West Marine has great deals right now on the Raymarine Element 7HV and the Garmin Echo Map UHD 74sv (GT54 transducer).
https://www.westmarine.com/raymarine-element-7hv-fishfinder-chartplotter-combo-with-hv-100-transom-mount-transducer-and-navionics-nav-us-canada-charts-19418441.html
https://www.westmarine.com/garmin-echomap-uhd-74sv-chartplotter-fishfinder-combo-with-gt54-transducer-and-us-coastal-g3-charts-19822758.html
The Garmin says it has "...unparalleled coverage and detail with preloaded BlueChart® g3 coastal charts featuring integrated Navionics® data"...the Raymarine has "Navionics+"...is the detail level of these charts similar to each other?  What Garmin transducer seems to work best in a Hobie Revo?  GT54/GT24/GT20...

Any feedback re: experiences with either/both of these -- esp. the Raymarine, as that seems to be a particularly good deal -- would be greatly appreciated...the units in general, transducer compatibility/workability, minimum-sized battery needed to use the units in a kayak, other considerations....

TIA

I look forward to reading any upcoming posts in this thread.

Just last night, I ordered a Garmin 74sv, on Amazon. About $580 with 3yr protection plan. It's replacing a Loweance Hook, that died at exactly 2 years of ownership. I had bought a 3yr protection plan with it too, and am glad I did. I'm only out $180, for the cost of new plan and what I hope will be a worthwhile upgrade over my last unit.

I switched from to the Garmin 74sv with the costal charts last season. It’s pretty great. The sonar picture is great, and it’s very user friendly. We will see how long it lasts. I ran it on the ski last season and it’s now on my Revo. As far as the transducer goes, I just broke the brackets that worked for the lowrance transducer off and put the Garmin transducer in under the skid plate. It fits tight and works great. There’s nothing holding the transducer other than the skid plate but it fits tight in there. I have heard that there is another skid plate you can order online with a mount for the Garmin transducer

I use a 73sv which as I’m sure you know is essentially the same as the 74sv with freshwater mapping. Mine has the GT54 transducer too. I don’t have anything bad to say about it. I really like the touchscreen and interface overall and all the different sonar and GPS chart plotter functions work well/like you’d expect. I use a 10AH Dakota lithium battery and it always lasts all day. If I remember right I’ve used it on a long weekend trip and it lasted two days and died on the third morning.

Used my new Garmin 74sv, for first time ever today.

Already liking it more than my Lowrance hook.  Just a nicer display, if nothing else. Haven't delved into all the features yet, but looking forward to learning it.
