Anyone looking at Saturday to get out of Fogarty/Depot? NOAA and Surf Report not exactly mirrors of each other, but fishable?

I'm planning on one of those

Was hoping to do it Friday too, but its of now it looks like the wind forecast kicked up a bit too much.  We'll see how it changes tomorrow

Wind seems to lessen as you go south to north.  I may get tempted to try PC for the first time this year

I was thinking the same thing, now if I can only get my work done I should be there.

Sounds like a few folk going. What time y’all planning on being in the lot? @clayman. North side still the place? You can tell how long since I have been there  :)

Yep, north lot is the place. It's a bit easier this year compared to last. No big sand bar to climb over/go around.

High slack around 8am, but with a 10" low at 2 we would need to be done or stay out.
I'll be ready to launch at 7.
Hope everyone has plenty of head shakes and a safe trip.

I am thinking of getting there 6ish or a bit earlier. Want to get off the water plenty before the low. See folk there.

BTW watching the PC Surf Cam @9:30a and some Dorys are pulling out. Beautiful conditions so assuming the fishing was decent this am!

Good day. Got lucky with a couple nice lings early (37 and 33”). Trolled for salmon 2 hours out and back from the reef but no luck. Struggled with rockfish until NoBadDays came to the rescue and spotted me a magic fly. 2 hours and one fish with my normal rockfish gear.. With the fly 15 minutes with I don’t know how many fish I hooked. Just kept throwing back the smaller ones that I landed 30 seconds earlier. Once limited, I passed the fly to WetNet who also limited in short order.

HUGE thanks to NoBadDays. Going to dust of my 9 weight fly rod. Converted!!

It was a great day to have a fly rod to fish for Rockfish.  After getting my quick limit of rockfish with the fly rod, I ran into Drifter2007.  I talked him into giving it a try.  He was catching fish so regular that two of the big charter boats and a couple sport boats were crowding closer.  Even when we moved to a different spot to try for lings, our new best friend charter boats were right by us again.

The rockfish were feeding right at the surface, so it was perfect conditions for a fly.  Fly fishing for rockfish is my favorite way to catch them.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

My go to again. 4oz Lancer Water Dog Jig.

The older I get the fewer things I fish with 😊

Man I had fun with James's fly rod!!

The Water was pretty clear and you could watch the fish hit the fly!

I caught a 24 inch Ling on the 1st drop, then went on a Ling dry spell for hours. But man the Rockfish!!

Super Fun!

Thanks James!

I launched with Beer-Run early. Given the forecast (ocean getting better through the day), I took the opportunity to do some "prospecting". I trolled salmon gear NW out to 150', then north a ways towards the Siletz River mouth. Water was freezing cold and clear @ 48 degrees, terrible salmon water, so I was more interested in watching the depthfinder.

Dropped small baits on a handful of spots out in 150' to see if I could find some flatfish, but I found a ton of small canary rockfish instead. Several doubles, and pretty annoying. Stowed the small baits and worked lingcod baits along structure. Picked up several lings in the 25-30" class, a few big 20" blacks, and the two Forbidden Ones: a quillback and a yelloweye. Harvested a 33" ling and two of the big blacks.

Around noon, a ton of murrs and seagulls were crashing on bait west of the reef, in about 100'. This happened when a big rip moved in, with water nearly three degrees warmer than the 48 degree nearshore water. I put out salmon gear and trolled around them, and immediately started getting takedowns. Trouble was, they were all rockfish. The rockfish followed the bait schools off the reef, and I couldn't keep em off.

I went back to lingcod fishing to try to fill my limit before heading in. It was nearly 2pm and I was literally putting gear away, getting ready to head to the beach, when my rod loaded up in 50'. This was a very heavy fish! She took several runs. A few minutes later, I had my first 40+ incher of 2024 in the net: just shy of 42" and 27 pounds! That marked the end of my 8+ hour ocean day.

Heard a few familiar voices on channel 69, but also a lot of garbled noise. Was anyone else picking up a bunch of incoherent jibberish on 69 yesterday?
