4ish in the morning and off to battle on the last day of the silver season down here. As one is approaching the ramp the crowd starts to thicken along with the fog, not the usual crowd but the six- pack boats and lots and lots of them. I park and get ready with the fog getting even thicker if possible (with darkness and fog can't see more than 5 ft. if that) but the strange thing is there isn't a lot of noise. The noise that is floating around sounds like it coming from all directions but distance and hollow. I slip past the line waiting to launch like a shadow in the night. The water felt cool on my feet as I slip in my kayak and started to paddle the noise change from eerie distance inhuman voices to more of the bump in the night noises-you know the ones that are in buried deep down inside of your mind- As I made my way along to the channel I decided to fish shallow with all the boats that was launching and for the sake of not getting ran over. 1st cast and that all but to knowing thump! The fish is out in the darkness and fog doing whatever a fish does when it goes air born. A boat passes by and all you can hear is from some voice in the unearthly night, was that a fish and a fading voice says something to the tune of "no just a beaver, to shallow over there for salmon". So, for the next couple of hours it was a fish ever couple casts (lost as many netted) yes, I could have tagged out within an hour but being my day off and the fish wiliness to entertain me.  The fog just was not going away even by midmorning (bumps in the nights now replace by what's out beyond the fog) which was fine by me for I was invisible to the rest of the six-pack fleet and catching fish. Finally made my way back after 7 hours of some of the hottest fishing (16 fish brought to the net) all in 5 foot or less of water. Not bad for a guy with a kayak and a fly rod. Made it back to the ramp slipped out unnoticed (like a gray ghost) by all the people and boats in the fog.
