assuming no fog, I'm looking at about an 8am launch Tuesday out of Sunset Bay, make sure I'm down at Simpson reef well before the high tide about 10:30am.  ;D

PS-  low temp Monday night/Tuesday morning forecast to be 32F but 38F by 9am!

Surgery on each hand and a blown bicep tendon have kept me off of the water for almost a year and a half.  Was looking at a return in the spring, but Tuesday is pretty tempting.  I'd be up to Fogarty if anyone else decides to.

Going to be at Depoe with a couple other guys.  Planning to get a couple hours in Monday afternoon if things calm down as predicted

just read a post talking about power boats having enough power to get back into Depoe against a bigger outgoing tide.   Tuesday afternoon going to be smack in the middle of a 10/11ft swing.  Haven't really paid attention to how much the tide has been moving the other times ive launched from there so don't have a feel for what I've done before.

Anyone have any feel for whether a pedal kayak can move against an 11' tide swing to get back into depoe?

Thanks for any input, I may be changing plans already

I’ve never been trying to go through the slot at Depoe during an 11’ exchange, but I’ve gone through the slot maybe 15 times and never even noticed the current.  Some of those times must have had at least a decent tidal exchange.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Interesting. My question for the power boat would be "where is the water coming from to create that much current?" Any noticeable outgoing current would drain that harbor pretty quickly.

I've gone through The Hole on all sorts of tides and never encountered any current that's comparable to a typical Oregon coastal bay or river mouth. The only issue I've encountered in The Hole is during very, very low tides coupled with a bit of swell. It gets tight in there, and the CG will sometimes put a 16' restriction on it until the tide rises.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Just saw a comment, wasn't sure, and don't want to get stuck outside.  I've done it several times and never really even thought about the tides there cause it didn't seem to matter

Plan is still on.  Going to walk the dog, load up the gear and head up to look for the first ling of the year.

the strong outgoing tide in the afternoon tomorrow is important to consider, especially with light winds and smooth afternoon forecast, but I think it's more getting back to near your launch point area as opposed to actually going through the hole or getting to shore.  I have had days out of Depot where I lost track of my location and had to work real hard to get back against the current/tide.

As for Sunset/Simpson area tomorrow, my goal is to be at Simpson by start of high slack, dropping just 1 crab pot on the way, hopefully hit a good bite and get things done.  But I'm definitely planning to beat feet the 2 miles or so back to the reef area NW of Sunset before that outgoing tide hits full force, grabbing my pot on the way and if necessary, I can try and finish off my limits over there, less than 1/2 mile outside of Sunset.

It was a little bouncy at the entrance today,  but Depoe conditions were otherwise good.  Just a few rockfish and a small lingcod

Okay,  I don’t know what that guy on the other forum was talking about,  but absolutely no issues pedaling in even with the big tide

Ton of boats at the ramp today,  guess that happens when pent up fish energy needs to be released.  FYI.  Not me but someone got a ticket for parking in the trailer spots even doubled with another car,  be careful

Good bunch of nice sized rockfish and a couple 25” lings for me.  Other four guys had similar catches some with more lings some with less rockfish

Caught 7 lings, 3 short, 4 24-25", one big cab (my first in 2 years, of course out of season) and one small black rf. Not the best day, but certainly not the worst.

Someone got a parking ticket? What a moron! I heard it was $115 for parking a truck without trailer in trailer only section. Heard several people got em...

A powerboat got a 30# ling, didn't see it, only heard people talking.

A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
