I don't use one, I use a burlap sack(2 bucks) You can make then drawstring by sewing a rope in the top. Found a reasonable catch bag here. There's gotta be other places, my search term "catch bag" kept coming back with alot of overseas sites for some reason.

Yeah, my searches kept coming up with the bags you put on the bow of your yak, which I don't like. I never did find a picture of what I'm talking about, hopefully somebody will chime in who has one. I have seen them in pictures in these forums a few times so they're here.

Are you talking about the wire mesh catch basket?
They have a round plastic lid for dropping the catch through.
Just tryin,
Scott

Awesome, thank you! I also found the Promar version at Cabelas but they are a little more money.

There must be some kind of characteristic of kayakers who would fish; you guys seem to want to be part of the solution all of the time.  Thanks a load.

For panfish those wire fish bags work pretty well.  However, I wouldn't bother taking one into the ocean (assuming the title of this thread still counts).  They aren't made of stainless steel and would be good for only about 2 or 3 decent sized black rockfish and wouldn't really work for lings at all.

My advice would be to use a burlap sack or a game clip.

 $2-$4 for a gunny sack.
They stay wet, shade yer catch well, and are rugged. Lings will stay alive for most of the day when hoisted in and out of the water enough to keep cool and wet.
I have a couple of 'em, I just hose 'em off and hang on the fence 'till next time

I keep my catch on a game clip in the rear tankwell and keep them covered with the gunny sack. I periodically splash everything to keep things fresh.

I picked up a insulated zippered cooler tote bag from BiMart ($8) to use on my last trip in the salt.  I put 5 small frozen Gatoraide bottles in and kept my five Black Bass nice and cold and frisky with room for more fish.  No leaks, therefore next trip out I plan to put a doggy wee wee pad on the bottom and bleed my fish in the bag, allowing the wee wee pad to absorb the blood.   I picked up another one before BiMart sold out, so I have enough room for a Ding-a-Ling or two to go in that one.   Also carry a game clip that I'll use to keep the biggies undercontrol while bonking, and then bleeding in the bag.

You can see my red/black bag in this picture.
