As far as the lakes near Florence goes, 17 of them, some do have Bullhead cats, but fishing for them is done at night. I have never heard of any Channel cats on the Central Oregon Coast!

Also, how about we even the playing field and require everyone to ONLY use a Walmart/BiMart/Freddies kiddy rod/reel combo, like Barbie, Spongebob, Spiderman, Mickey Mouse, Hanna Montana.... etc?  $20 max!
No hot rodding the reel, or line changes.  Out of the box and go fishing.  ;D

I really like this idea but I think it's too late to put those kinds of restrictions on this event.
I already have 3 of these and all have caught decent sized trout.

Hmmm, I guess we could make this voluntary and each person who chooses to use one could join a "pool" for overall Snoopy Rod winner....  But this would definitely be a side bet sort of affair.

Would it be too much to request this kind of thing now as the alternative venue for next year if we get kicked off the ocean again?  Pretty much have this be the fall back venue if ocean conditions are no good anywhere else within reason of the primary event.  All that would be needed would be to pick a freshwater area near the primary event and have it noted early enough so hotel, camping, and gear purchase could be acquired to accommodate.

It would be funny to have everyone purchase a kiddy rod/reel and have to turn it in during signups at headquarters.  Then at 5am, the gates are open and each rod is handed out in random fashion. So, lets say someone has some secret tricks done to the reel, and now it ends up in someone elses hands.  Or even better, Spot gets the bright pink "Pretty Pretty Princess" combo, hehe!

Family packing up the gear to head out tomorrow.  I see CY76 has a prediction for a winning catfish.  I need to know, are there any Channel catfish in this lake?  I heard of Bullhead, but I need confirmation.  Very important information.  Anyone? Anyone? Bueller...Ferris...Bueller?

I have secret bait just acquired this PM...not trying to intimidate...just sayin'...
Bring It!

In the reading i did it said the fishing for channel catfish was poor...
See ya on the water..

Let me tell you a little story friend:

After showing particularly bad sportsmanship in an open martial arts tournament (tearing the velcro closures completely off of his brand new gloves), I acquired for my son a set of the prettiest pink sparring gear I could find.  Mind you, this was just weeks before his 24 hour long Blackbelt test which included having to take on previous recipients as well co-candidates.  Of course he got no end of grief for sporting pretty pink gear.
He took it hard.  And everyone else took advantage.  On the morning of the second day, as I filmed from the doorway, little pretty in pink took down each competitor in the line with 1 hit (with the exception of his Sifu).  When he was through, he turned to the camera and said.....

"The only thing worse than being beaten, is being beaten by someone in pink"

If you wanna buy me one, I'll fish the tournament with a Pretty Pretty Princess rod.  But I get to keep the rod after I beat you with it.  >:D

That's awesome!   Spot, I figure you could catch any fish, on any kind or color of rod known to man.  You have fish mojo for sure! As does your steel head buddy. :headbang:

Glad you caught the humor in my post.  When I re-read it, it sounded a little snippier than I'd intended.

Those little closed spool reels are notorious for hanging up.  You'll notice that Matt pulls the line past the reel snag multiple times during the fight.

Here's Matt's 1st Barbie Rod Steelhead.   8)

Sorry 'bout the hijack guys!
