a little late, but what the hey  ::)

made the sportsman's show in Puyallup last Saturday. even met Dez from washingtonlakes.com [ i think that's where he's at??]  plenty of guide services from Alaska and here in NW. a few looked at us funny when mentioning yak fishing.. one or two, i think squid girl may have made some future mothership trip contacts.. letting her work on that in her own time to present here.

tons of jet sleds, drift boats, if it had power or pontoons it was there. did not see one yak anyplace other than the Sportco booths. a really nice 23ft  Trophy Center Console caught my eye tucked way back behind the "Yota truck displays.. got back there, guys in front of me looking at each other going "huhn?? that things built for Miami, not here". guess the fact that it can't run through water less than 2 feet doesn't sit well with some folks.

fell in lust again with the Wooldridge 29ft super sport pilot house. i'm liking this boat more each time i see it, and i'm thinking that even at 150K it's a bargain for what you get.

this year felt a little , ....down? maybe? just didn't seem as if there was much energy in the crowds or the booths. even the camper folks were lamenting the slows, and this show is geared towards that end of "outdoors".

biggest active spot there seemed to be outside with the chainsaw carvers. this group makes everything from log statues of bears and critters to drop dead beautiful benches having 3 salmon as the backrest and even chainsaw carvings of 50lb kings.. and i never got their card.

hopefully next year will pick up for all involved.

Guess things never picked up from Wednesday. I drove up, had lunch with my mom, went to the show, then rushed back to deal with things at home...

Wednesday was pretty slow too, despite being the first day.  15 minutes before gates opened there was a line pushing 2 blocks long. Lucky me, I was heading to lunch first.

Tons and tons and tons of guides. Couldn't believe how many people make a living off of guiding... well, at least trying to. Once I finally got into the fishing gear area, I slowed down a bit.

I talked with the guy at the Tica booth after he told me I should buy the kayak rod I was looking at.  He went on to say that Tica has built a NEW kayak rod that should be available now.  He couldn't tell me anything more about it, other than it was made after he went on his only yak fishing adventure in Costa Rica last year...

From what I saw, vendors were more into talking to each other than interaction with everyone else.  That was too bad, but there wasn't a whole lot more to see anyways.

I know what you're talking about, and, yes, I do the same.
