This has been my second trip out in my kayak, Twice in applegate lake. Me and my wife have lucked out two weeks in a row up there. we got on the water about 10:30,11:00 am, bolth weekends have been like rowing thru glass. i couldn't have asked for a better (Newbie Experience). i was trolling a wedding ring with a worm, about twenty min into our trip wham!!! my first kayak fish!!!!! it felt like a salmon. the kayak even started to move! I'm cranking it in as fast as i can, and there it is, a monster 9" rainbow trout!! hahahahaha i was embarrassed and happy at the same time, thinking i had a shark! i was yelling at my wife "Get the Camera!!" it was the first of 4 that day (same size, didn't keep) i don't know how you guys catch BIG fish. Reeling in my trolling set up, spins the boat. Any ways me and my wife had a awesome time! investing in two kayaks was the best think i have ever done. Pay for gas and go.

Such a cool report!
Congrats my friend! You've just been pushed down the rabbit hole!  >:D

I fished Applegate Lake from the kayak almost two years ago. That is such a beautiful lake. And the trout in that lake are not shy at all!

I thought that I was the only yaker that fished Applegate. I fish there pretty regular using the same fishing rig you used except I put a 1/2 ounce bullet
in front to get a little deeper. I have caught some 15 and 16 inch trout there.
There are hardly any other fishermen on that lake this time of the year to help if you get in any kind of problems there. I'm going to have to post what happen to me last January in the 40% water there when I almost became troutbait. Good looking yak and fish.

Don't you have to pack your yak in on a narrow trail to get to squaw lakes?
I think there are 2 lakes up there. Only been to the parking area.
I have a mango pungo 14' sit in side yak with outriggers. My wife told me I had
make my yak saver after I rolled it last Jan. or she was going to up my life insurance and get a young stud to take my place.
