I've been tying them for about a year & use mostly synthetics. lost several of them last season, so I'm tying more. Gonna take a bunch with me when we go to GS-7 down in Shelter Cove. They were fairly popular last year. These worked really well tied about 12" above a jig.
. Got a few more pics in my gallery & will take more pics of the new ones.

Paul,  are those Crazy Charlies?  Or some variant of them?  Bonefish flies!

Yes, I have a box of bonefish flies left over from Christmas island.  I've been using them for mackerel sabikis (size 6's)  and rockfish flies (size 2's).  Was going to swing a few for steelhead and toss some for surfperch.  May even troll some of the small pink ones behind small dodgers for kokes.  And I'm sure the larger pink ones would do a number of pink salmon.  It would be fun to see how many species I could get on them.

yes, crazy charlies. i used them with great success last year, especially in the spring when the brf were top feeding on crab larva. i'd like to try a modified clouser behind a flasher & see what happens.

both of these have trailer hooks.

Thanks Paul.  I see what you mean.  I'll put it on the list of things to fix.

size 1 & 2. Sometimes bigger if I get the urge. 1/0 for the front & #1 for the trailer on the clousers

Been tying rockfish and greenling flies in sizes 2-3/0 and lingcod flies in sizes 3/0- 5/0 hooks. Using a lot of synethetic and some natural hair, just depends on the size/color and the bulk I want . The flies range from 2'' to almost 12" long. Using bucktail, and craft fur, super hair and bunny strips for the smaller flies and for the bigger flies, lots and lots of yak hair along with super hair.

Some great looking flies. I like the action of the natural materials, but the synthetics have more flash. I have been tying/collecting some similar patterns (although none larger than 4 inches) in hopes of getting into the salt in 2013. How many of you are fishing these with fly rods? If you are, are you using full sink, sink tips or shooting heads?

Will try and post some pictures if I can figure this computor out. As for fishing the flies, I use a 9/10 weight with 200 yds. of backing a medium sink running line with 15ft. of T-20. The flies have x-large lead eyes(1/10oz.) the T-20 is 600 grains. That will get me in 40 -50 foot depth range no problem. If I need to go deeper or bigger I switch the fly out for one that has green top split shot homemade eyes. The leader is 3ft. of 12lb.- 15lb. I have fished with this set, up to 90ft. The sink rate is about 22ft.-23ft. in 30 or so seconds. Don't get emotionally attached to your flies or the T-20 because you will lose lots of flies some days and the T-20 will wear out quickly from being drug over the rocks, sand, barnacles and such.

Thanks! Those are some great tips. I have been using some similar setups, just not in the salt yet. And, I had no idea anyone had gotten that deep. I am running 80-pound braided tough line with a head system (10 to 20 feet of T-20 and 1000 grain deep water express) on a 12 weight. I was trolling flies for spring salmon this year and had one hook-up that snapped my leader. I am really anxious to get out for some rockfish and hope I can find someone who is willing to deal with a salt newby. I created the 12-weight outfit primarily to fish for sturgeon and salmon. I have talked with some anglers in BC who have caught sturgeon with a fly rod from a boat. It is in no way a purist sport and they use scent on sponges. I haven't had much luck but I keep trying. I have caught salmon on a fly rod and sturgeon on my center-pin reel so I have an idea what to expect.

for rockfish i like to fish an 8 wt with 25' of t-14 as the shooting head.  it also pays to have some lighter heads if the fish are suspended high in the water column or on the surface.  to really dredge, like for lingcod, i will fish a 10 wt with 30' of t-17 as a shooting head.  with that head i have hung bottom in 70' of water, so i have not felt the need to go up to the t-20 line.

for running line, i like the rio intermediate running line.  you give up some depth with it compared to the mono lines like amnesia, but i like the handling and lack of tangling it offers vs. amnesia... which makes a huge difference in the small space of a kayak vs. a larger boat.

Curious....I have never tied a fly with a stinger or trailer hook.  Would like to try to tie some of my striper clousers a bit different for Rockfish and add a stinger....  What's the best method for tying a stinger in on larger, longer flies?

Thanks in advance!!!
