Some photos of the Malibu Kayaks new model the X13. Says it's 13' 10" long, 29" wide and 58#'s. The new low pro gator hatch is supposed to be standard. Looking forward to larger hull/deck shots ... Pretty schweet looking yak.

Wow, that looks a bit slicker than the standard Malibu Fishing Tank Kayak.

It's kind of fun watching the SOT kayak manufacturing companies trying to develop the ideal fishing kayak.

I remember when SOT kayaks were just designed for rental fleets and scuba divers.

Hey hey,.... well they are a bit on the tanky side i guess. :D This one is really a departure from their normall hull type. This one is still a prototype so I'm sure there's more to it. I'm loving the manf's finally paying attention and making some great new fishing yaks.

The hull, above the water, looks good. It'll be nice to see the rest of the bottom.

Is that a bulk head I see inside behind the front hatch or just a weird shadow?  If it is, so much for rod/extra paddle storage.

Yeah it is. They've made it so that the Front hatch is it's own enclosed area. There's a little scupper hole at the bottom. There's also a circular impression where you could put a hatch for rod storage. Although trying to feed rods backwards through the yak seems like a pain in the ass to me. I'm not really sure where they're going w/ this.

My guess is internal bracing to keep the hull rigid.

How does that scupper hole inside the hatch work?  Seems to me it's below water line.

I'd guess you have to plug it while in use. Probably just there so you can clean it out easily.

Are you sure that's not a drain hole?  It appears to be below the water line and about the size of a drain plug.  Also, the front hatch area would make up about 1/3 of the flotation volume.

I heard from the guy who took the pics that it's a scupper. It is still just a prototype though. If it is a scupper It'll probably come w/ a plug.
