Look up Rapjon Lake south of you on ,highway 7. Trout and bass both,  work the weed lines or troll the center with small spoons.

Stay on 7 and go 25 mi or so to Alder Lake for a mixed bag.

Ohop and Tanwax should be on your Kapowsin circuit.

Google earth is good but also look at Bing Maps to your south. There are many small lakes near you.

Thank you, I'll surely have to check them.

Do your team mates have to all be in the same state in order to compete in kayak wars?

Don't think so, I think it goes by region. We (Brad and I) just added a couple of friends to make the minimum team of 4, they haven't even logged a fish. The program has good points and bad. I don't like the hassle of measuring every fish that qualifies, it slows down the fishing and doesn't help the survival rate when trying to CnR. I'll finish it this year, then weigh out the benefits and drawbacks before I get involved again.

It would be awesome to fish with you two. Hopefully some of that mojo would rub off  ;D

And by the way...you really chapped my ass with that lingcod upgrade! I thought I had it in the bag for this year!  :'(
Do you feel like Lingcod scores are nerfed compared to other species? A 38inch ling seems like a trophy fish to me. It definitely seems more deserving of 200 points than say a freaking surf perch! But I digress...
So yeah, I'm interested in KW2014.

Sorry about that 38" Ling, it wasn't intentional that I bumped you from the top slot, I didn't even know about your big Ling until after I posted mine. Yeah, a bit undervalued if you look at typical sizes around here, but you have to consider the top of the growth range (5' = 300 pts), and somewhere out there is a 5 foot Ling.

For KW2014, we should form a team that can win the division. The PNW has a lot of very talented fisherman that are producing lots of fish. 5 of them should be on the same team like they did in Nor Cal this year. We had our talent spread too thin to win KW2013.

I think that kayak fishing competitions in general will take a big step forward in the next year or so with more sponsors, more competitions and more serious entrants. We're a long way from the pro bass tour, but moving in the right direction. The young talent in this group, like you and others, should be ready to step up to these changes. Old guys like me can watch from our rocking chairs.

Team NWKA1  won the saltwater division the first two years we were allowed to compete, just don't have the team to do it this year most likely. Since ling, ling and merz are gonna join NWKA1 next year, if we had you and one other high point getter we could really challenge for the overall win i think
See ya on the water..

I'm not excited about doing it again next year. I joined it on the last day to register this year at the end of April. I started logging fish on May 2nd, a few months behind everyone. I took the west region by thousands of points and the west freshwater team by 1500 points or so with a few hundred points from Brad.

Brad figured it out early - it takes a lot of time to measure and log fish and you'll catch more fish when you quickly release and get your line back out, so he just stopped logging fish. Also, that trophy fish might be swimming under your hull while your trying to measure and photograph one for 10 KW points. Add in the increase in mortality rate for the few seconds of out of water time for the photograph, it's a lose-lose all around. Overall, you get bragging rights and a T-shirt at the cost of many hours of your time, and some of that time is on-water fishing time (a high-value commodity). I finished it this year because I'm stubborn and I wanted to finish what I started, but I don't see any value in doing it again next year. I'm not faulting anyone that participates in KW if it's your thing then good luck and have fun doing it.

Well said.  Measuring every fish turns out to be a way bigger pain in the ass than it originally seems.
